Transmitted by
  • Sexual contact.
  • Sharing blood.
  • Mother to infant at birth.

Symptoms
  • Initial signs: small, painless sores at the point of infection.
  • Later signs: recurring rash, fever, joint pain and hair loss.

Prevalence
70,000 people are diagnosed with syphilis each year.

Treatment
  • Syphilis is treated with antibiotics.

w/o Treatment
  • You can give it to your sexual partner(s).
  • A mother can give it to her baby during childbirth or have a miscarriage.
  • Can cause heart disease, brain damage, blindness and even death.
